International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test of English language proficiency. The test is planned to assess the language ability of non-native speakers of English who desire to study or work where English is the official language of communication such as Canada. Importance of IELTS for Canada Migration
The IELTS assesses the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as the official language of communication. The IELTS test employs a nine-band scale to spot individual levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
IELTS is available in two editions:
- Academic for applicants applying for higher education or professional registration abroad.
- General Training: for applicants planning to migrate to Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, or for persons applying for secondary education, training programmes and work experience in English-speaking surroundings.
In the Academic or the General test, both versions are aimed to assess four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

IELTS is a condition precedent to be allowed into the Express Entry pool. The principal and secondary applicant must have at least a result of 6 to be admitted into the pool.
Persons desirous to study abroad to from French-speaking background may sit for Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF); Test d’Évaluation du Français adapté au Québec, or TEF pour la naturalization to test the French-speaking skills or proficiency as well.
Most IELTS candidate panic over the test but it is not as difficult as it may have been perceived to be. It is advisable to attend short classes to improve your skills and learn the rules of the test.
